Conduct Competency Assessment

Conducting competency assessments is an essential process to determine if a Candidate already possesses the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities required to perform a specific job or task required by their Qualification, in which you as an Assessor needs to confirm.

There are several key steps involved in conducting a competency assessment. One of these is to clearly define the competencies required for the job or task in question as provided in the Training Regulations of your Qualification.

Once the competencies have been identified, the next step is to inform your candidates the methods that will be used to assess their skills, this can be in combination of  written tests, interviews, performance evaluations, or simulations to evaluate the candidates' skills and abilities as per stated in your Assessor's guide.

Secondly, as a Competency Assessor, It is important to ensure that the assessment methods that you will use are based on the rules of evidence, in terms of validity, recency and authenticity, and the four dimensions of competencies  as stated in your rating sheets, specific instructions, and Assessor's guide.

During the assessment, it is important to provide clear instructions to the candidates to ensure that they have the opportunity to demonstrate their competencies in a supportive and non-threatening environment.

Once the assessment has been completed, your gathered pieces of evidence should be sufficient to produce results that you should evaluate and analyzed to determine if the candidates have already  met the minimum competency requirements of the qualification in question, and if the required job or task output have proven competence.

If the candidates did not meet the required competencies, appropriate feedback should be provided to help them improve their skills and give them a better chance to pass the assessment in the near future should they choose to undergo reassessment.
