Core 1 - Plan Training Session


As per the TM1 Training Regulations, the Core Competency Plan Training Session is described as a
"...unit [that] covers the knowledge, skills and attitudes in planning a training session. It includes identifying learner’s requirements, preparing session plan, preparing instructional materials and organizing learning and teaching and assessment resources."
Under this core competency, we will find five learning outcomes (LO)s that a candidate needs to achieve in order to be considered competent. These Learning outcomes are:
  1. Identify learner’s training requirements;
  2. Prepare session plans;
  3. Prepare instructional materials;
  4. Prepare assessment instruments (Institutional; and
  5. Organize learning and teaching resources. 
Referring now to the Competency Based Learning Materials (CBLM) that the National TVET Trainer's Academy (NTTA) had released,  we will notice that the content arrangement were based on how the different learning outcomes were specified under the Training Regulations.

Speed reading the CBLM will now give us the following output requirements that a trainee needs to submit in order to complete the portfolio requirements of this core competency. These requirements are:

For LO1 Identifying Learner's training requirements we need two sets of documents. these are: 1) Training Needs Analysis (TNA) Forms 1-4; and 2) Data Gathering Tool for Trainee Characteristics.

For LO2 Preparing session plans, you need to submit a complete session plan for one core competency of your respective Qualification.

For LO3 Preparing Instructional Materials, you need to submit a complete CBLM for one Learning Outcome based on your session plan.

For LO4 Preparing assessment Instruments, you need to submit one set of Institutional Assessment Tool for one core competency of your qualification.

And lastly, For LO5, Organizing learning and teaching resources, you are required to submit: 1) an inventory of Training Materials that you will be using for your Training Delivery; and 2) a layout of your ideal workshop which shall include the nine CBT areas.

All the output documents that you are required to submit will serve as your portfolio, most of these documents will serve as part of you National Assessment Portfolio Requirements, while the other documents will be part of the props that you will utilized for your demonstration under Core 2 " Facilitate Training Session.

Documents for National Assessment Portfolio:
  1. Session Plan;
  2. CBLM;
  3. Institutional Assessment Tools; and
  4. Inventory of Training Materials.
Documents that you will utilized as props for your demonstration on FLS:
  1. TNA Forms;
  2. Data Gathering tool for Trainee Characteristics; and
  3. Shop Layout.
To complete the Institutional Assessment  requirements of this core competency, aside from the above mentioned portfolio documents, the Trainee will also be required to undergo an essay form of written examination and an interview from the lead Facilitators.
